Shradha
Founder & Creative Head
-
Hey, I’m Shradha! After grabbing my MBA degree in Marketing and Finance from Amity Business School, I took a couple of years to dip my feet into different fields before entering the startup world and diving headfirst into exploring my passion for design and of course, my love for dogs.
Currently, I’m working as the creative head of my company and along with an amazing team, working towards making my baby brand the next thing in vogue.
They say the best ideas are borne out of necessity, and that’s how Blommingtails came about. We’ve had pets since I was very young but there were never too many options to dress them up, especially for the big, cuddly fur balls of mine. As I grew up and started discovering the world of fashion mainly through binge-watching shows like Gossip Girl, I wanted to incorporate this newfound energy in my personal style as well as my pets because they’ve never just been dogs to me, they’re my babies. In recent years, even though the market had started coming up with options for pet accessories, I realised there were none for bigger breeds. Inheriting the entrepreneurial nature of my dad, I started Bloomingtails in Oct 2020.
My goal heading into this was to create accessories for every breed and size. Also, design them in a minimalistic yet elegant way to become a part of your space, something that you wouldn’t wanna put away before your guests arrive. With an eye for quality, detail and the edge, the team and I have by being pet parents ourselves, we take inspiration from everything that makes us feel happy and we try to bring that emotion into the products we design, crafting them to be practical, durable and timeless.
My mother has been an integral part of my design process - from helping to choose fabrics to lending invaluable support and encouragement. I incorporate my mother's keen eye for detail into my own work.
I’m immensely grateful for my mom and dad who have let me choose my own path in life, and credit them for all that I and my baby brand are today. Like any other parent, two-legged babies or four, I’m very particular about the nutritional value of their food and treats, which resulted in baking homemade treats for Nawab as a hobby and when we expanded into doing birthday cakes and desserts for dogs in Jammu, where we’re based out of, the response was overwhelming. The pictures and videos we receive of pups all decked up, posing with their cakes and licking their bowls clean, keep us going.
I remember the first time I spotted Boomingtails on the street. There was this boy walking his three dogs around Jammu, all dressed up in our accessories with three different shades of our rope leashes, looking as if they just left the set of Legally Blonde.
A highlight for me was opening our first pop-up store in Jammu, in Dec 2021. As we run our operations online, having a brick-and-mortar storefront was a real treat. It allowed us to get to know the pet parents and pups in the neighbourhood. Being recognised by our local press and a recent feature in LBB Delhi has also been a big win for us.
When not working or panicking over a delay, you can find me scrolling mindlessly through Instagram, sipping on tea with my mom, listening to podcasts or binging on Netflix with Nawab.
(he loves watching Gilmore Girls).
Shreya
Social Media Manager
Hi, I'm Shreya! I work as a social media manager. Every “Hi” to “PP”, is answered by me. One of my favourite things to do is create fun and engaging games to entertain our followers on Instagram stories. I love seeing how enthusiastic and involved you all get, and it brings me so much joy to see how much you all love and care for your pets.
When I'm not working, you can usually find me curled up in bed with Rio and Doritos, binging Netflix or listening to music. I often joke that Rio is my BFF, which is not too far from the truth! I love spending time with him, taking him on walks, and just enjoying his company. He bring so much joy and happiness into my life, and I know that many of you feel the same way about your pets. I’d rather hang out with my dog than attend social events, ironically! They're always up for a good snuggle session, and I never tire of their adorable antics.
I’m grateful that my job allows me to work with an amazing team while also being able to spend time with my beloved pet. I am grateful to be a part of this brand that not only provides high-quality pet accessories but also celebrates the special bond between pets and their owners. I am excited to continue engaging with all of you and to see all the adorable pictures of your pets.
So, if you want to see more of what we're up to, head on over to our social media pages and check out our stories. Who knows, you might even get to play one of my fun games!
Harman
Photographer
Hi, I’m Harman! I’m the designated treat dispenser at all our photoshoots while balancing my camera. A UI/UX designer by profession, I fell in love with photography the moment I picked up my first flip phone (90's babies can relate). I remember the feeling of excitement and wonder as I held that device in my hands, realising that I could capture the world around me in a new way.
As I grew older, my passion for photography grew with me. I found myself taking pictures of everything around me, trying to capture moments that I knew I would never forget. I loved how a single photograph could evoke emotions, tell a story, and capture the essence of a moment in time.
As I continued to hone my skills, Bruno, my dog was often my subject. I found that capturing the unique personalities of animals was particularly rewarding, and I loved the challenge of working with animals to create beautiful, memorable images. I also love travel and food, so you can often find me exploring new places and trying out local cuisines.
Nisha Aunty
Nisha aunty was the first employed tailor in our team. Starting with the beautifully hand stitched bandanas, she now also does the potlis (dust bags) that come with all our leashes and festive wear. I found Nisha aunty in search for a tailor who would understand my vision and not mock the idea of making clothes for pets. Her welcoming nature and patience as I explained what is to be done made me certain that I want her to stick around.
In our first conversation, she told me coming from a background of stitching Indian suits, she knows how picky women can be, laughed and said she doubt dogs would be that picky.
Nisha aunty has two daughters, 11 and 7 years of age.
“I am grateful for the additional work I get from here as it helps me support my girls’ education. We were never told to leave what we were doing once we started here, that’s what I like the most about this job. Ma’am never stops us from taking on additional work since it benefits us. In fact, she supports it and teaches us to be more hardworking and earn to support ourselves and our children.”
Bismilla Didi
Our laundryman’s wife, Bismila didi often helps out her husband with his work. She lives with her husband and their 3 kids. It’s been eight years since she moved to Jammu from Lucknow after she got married. Winter is a busy season and we needed extra hands on deck when we reached out to Bismila didi for helping us with our winter collection. Along with helping her husband, she began assisting our team with the winter blankets you all love so much. She has also learned the skill of crafting our handmade rope leashes.
I remember explaining to her what we do and her kids giggling in the background. Their little laughs show how much the society needs to educate innocent kids about being humble and caring for those who can’t fend for themselves.
Till date they laugh and shout as they run to their mother when we go to collect the ready stock, “didi has come to get the dog clothes, not humans mumma.”
Salam Bhaiya
Salam bhaiya has been with us since the past year. When he started working with us, he came with a wealth of experience. The precision with which he places the borders and laces, shows his expertise in his field of work. Born in Bengal, he has been working with his father as his apprentice since he was a little boy before moving to Orissa, Delhi, Kolkata, Jharkhand and now Jammu since the past 7 years to work on his own. He is the most experienced and relaxed person in our entire team. Every piece is made with so much love and attention, despite the chaos at times during the busy season.
“I have worked in many cities before I came to Jammu in 2016 and the warmth of the people here is unlike any other. I find it to be my home more than any other place I’ve stayed. While the various places I've worked at have refined my skills, this place feels like my true home. I was the first person to make samples of shirts for this company but I left for my hometown and covid hit and I couldn’t come back for a year. So last year, when I came back to Jammu, didi contacted me and hired me for making the outerwear for dogs and cats. It is a very different concept to what I am used to but I am glad she remembered my work after all that time. What I like the most about working here is that each day we are taught to minimise material waste. Our team creatively repurposes excess cuttings into bows and toys, striving for minimal wastage. This experience has deepened my understanding of sustainability and the profound impact it can have on our environment.”
Suman Didi
“Monica was my neighbour before she got married and introduced me to this job. I came to didi looking for some work but there were enough tailors here, however, she didn’t turn me away. She taught me to make rope leashes. I spend a good amount of time in learning how to get it right but she never gave up on me. We tested them out for months before the launch and when we finally did, the response was overwhelming. During covid we sold so many rope leashes and I often used joke that I have more work than any of you here.”
In addition to her craftsmanship, Suman didi also takes an active role in managing our raw materials and inventory, contributing significantly to our operational efficiency. I was especially proud of her never give up attitude when she was learning the braiding of our rope leashes. Her journey is a testament to the spirit of learning, growth, and the impactful contributions of each member of our team.
Mehboob Bhaiya
Mehboob bhaiya was the first person we hired for making our shirts. He eventually started making jackets, sweaters and sherwanis as well. His “ho jayega” (“can be done easily”) attitude is what keeps the entire team going. No matter what design you give him, no matter how different, he always pulls through in the first attempt.
“I came from Kolkata to Jammu in search for work over 10 years ago. I was fortunate enough to meet such nice people here who took me in and helped me perfect my craft. I have been a ladies tailor, so this was a completely uncharted territory for me. However, I swiftly got a hang of it and now I look forward to every design and every new collection we launch. It makes things fun and it’s interesting how I still get to learn something new everyday here despite being in the same field of work for over a decade.”
Monica Didi
“Coming from our background, girls are not encouraged to work. Often times they aren’t put into schools too. I was lucky to get an education till 10th grade but post that I was told to learn house work since I will be married eventually. I knew basic stitching for repairing our own clothes but when mamu reached out to me to work for this company I was very excited. I was taught the work by other tailors from the team and honed my skills. I now stitch bandanas, bows and toys for the company. A year later, I got married and moved far from the studio and my mother’s place. It was then when I realised the importance of earning and financial freedom. I reached out to ma’am after a 4 month sabbatical and she was kind enough to let me freelance for her. I now take materials to my home every time I visit. It is convenient for me and I don’t have to ask my husband for money for every little need of mine.”
Monica di started working with us before she got married last year. I hired her through my driver who told was telling us about his family and his niece who was waiting to get married off. Upon asking if she would be interested in learning our products since she knew a bit of stitching, she was elated at the opportunity where she would be able to work from home, report to the studio at her convenience and help out her family with the chores at the same time.
